It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dearly beloved mother, Elvira V. Ortiz on March 11, 2021. Heaven has gained a most wonderful angel! She was born on November 21, 1925 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her father Dr. Francisco “Pancho” Vargas, mother Soledad Vargas, brother Jorge Vargas and her beloved husband Rudy “Fito” Ortiz.
She attended Loretto Academy and then the Texas College of Mines (UTEP) where she met her husband of over 59 years. She completed her master’s degree and taught bilingual education for over 34 years in the EPISD. She loved to bake her two-layer cherry heart birthday cakes for anyone who needed one, sew anything and everything, swim her backstroke circles and travel as a family to new and different locations. We will forever miss solving the world’s problems with her on the back porch over a glass of white wine.
She helped raise and discipline 5 sons; Luis (Marilyn), Ralph (Flor), Gabriel (Gwyneth), Mark (Margaret), Rudy (Brenda). She leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Cameron, Christina (Allan), Michael (Lyndsey), Sophia, Marisa and a great grandson Landon. She also leaves behind her sister Lupe Vargas Casillas, brothers Francisco Vargas DDS and Luis Vargas DDS.
We would also like to thank Mrs. Silvia Pallares for her very loving care of our mother for the last four years and her caring physicians Dr. Michael Bagg and Dr. Edmundo Rosales.
