Dear McGuire family.  It was so sad to hear of the passing of your mother and  grandmother.  She is resting now.  Surrounded by her loved ones and probably laughing at all of us.  No more suffering and no more pain.

Thank you family and friends for being here to honor my mother and to pray for her soul that she is now with my dad and sister and all our family members that are now in God's kingdom.

Mom we are so grateful to God for sharing you with us these past 90+yrs.  Selfishly we didn't want to let go especially with the progress we felt you were making the last month.

Over the past 2 to 3 yrs as Sylvia's health deteriorated, we maybe didn't notice that your health was also declining. My mission was to be there for both of you.  Sylvia's passing seemed to accelerate your decline as you began to lose weight.  I began to go over more often to make sure you were eating and taking your medication as directed.  As your weight continued to decline, especially the months of July and August , you went from about 100 to 80. My visits increased to every morning before work and after worked and on my days off.

David came to help out and was on a mission to fatten our mother up while he was here for a month.  It seemed to be working after about 3 wks she was up to 86 lbs. We were so excited for her and us.  Her appetite seemed to be back as she was hitting the pan dulce hard and heavy.

She was more willing to go out, one day we took her to a special healing mass and after wards was willing to go out to eat at Villa del Mar.  Another day we took her to get her hair done and made a trip down to Alameda st for some tripitas and barbacoa.  Not done yet we went to Bowie bakery.  Things were looking good.

We began to talk about what would we do when David had to leave back to NC.
Who was going to stay with mom and not let her go back to losing weight.  A foster home? Nursing home? 24 hr health care?  We didn't know who could help.

Exactly one week before David was going to go back home, on  my way to work that morning I began to pray as I usually do.  I asked God to send me an answer, to show me a sign.  Miraculously later that day one of my co-workers came to work with a prayer she had received at a rosary she had gone to the night before.  In part it read:  I will lend you your parents so that you can love them while they are alive.  It could be 10, 20, or 90yrs before I call them.  Our Lord asks: Can you take care of them?  I feel I was asked that question 61 yrs ago and my answer was yes.  God has searched for the right children and he has chosen me. He doesn't promise that we will have them forever, they are only on loan to you.

That was my sign this was my answer.  After work I went straight to Mamo's house to tell them what we would do.  I told Mamo, David, and Adam about my prayer and answer and told them that Mamo would go to my home.  Mamo and all seemed to be OK with this idea.  I told Mamo we would even take her TV except that I didn't have cable for the room she would be in.  She responded very seriously by saying, “Well you'll just have to get it.”  She really loved her QVC.

Unfortunately, things went south from there.  That Fri. she came down w/ pnuemonia and went to the hospital, the next Wed she was released under hospice care.  She passed peacefully in my home this past Tue.

Mamo we pray you are happy and at peace in God's home.  No illness, no back or neck pain.  Able to swallow with no problem.  No shingles and if you are still itching, angels are scratching you with their heavenly wings.
Maybe you've gained 80 lbs already and Pop is calling you Fatty again, take it easy on the pan de huevo.

You and Sylvia are at peace knowing Adam will not be alone as many of our cousins have reached out to him and I will always be here for him.

Are you and aunt Trini acting like crazy teenagers again?  Don't make God send you to your rooms.

What a reunion it must be with your parents, whom you called out for so many times, and all your brothers and sisters.  Give them all a big hug and kiss from us.

What a beautiful sounding new home you have.  We hope to join you there some day.

As I sit among some of the best and brightest it all comes into focus. Tragedy has struck this family more times this year than most experience, yet we remain strong. I take special attention to the hands that made this possible. The hands that work, the hands that comfort, the hands that provide, the hands that teach, and most important the hands that make us laugh. My grandmother defined these qualities. She always hated her smile yet when she did hers lit up the room. Only we could make her laugh and there are no shortage of such music makers. My family is great! Flaws, faults and foibles we are strong. Is it the blood or the lineage? Is it the tradition or the devotion? It is the laughter. If it truly is the best medicine then we shall live forever. We are a force to be reckoned with. We are what happens when an unstoppable force meets the immovable object. We are chaotic benevolence. We are harmonious anarchy. We are the McGuires through and though. We are love and we are family.

My Dear Mamo,

Our family is forever blessed by you.  Thirty-six years with you is not enough for me, but I am comforted that you are not suffering anymore and are walking hand-in-hand with our Lord, just as perfect as the day you were born; dancing with Ampo and holding Eia once again.

Thank you for our trips downtown, spending the night at your house, tickles, Dennis the Menice, time at the mall and rides to the gorcery store ("No mas para carne y leche") and for you endless and unconditional love.
