Emma Estrada McGuire (mamo), our beloved mother, grand mother, great-grand mother and aunt was called home by out Lord on Oct. 15, 2013. Born in El Paso on Nov. 13, 1922 to Juan and Catalina Estrada, in an area known as “el pujido”. She was the youngest and last remaining of eight brothers and sisters. She and Raul McGuire were married in 1946 and they were together until his death in 1981. Together they raised David, Danny and Sylvia. Our beautiful sister was called by our Lord not quite one year ago on Nov. 4, 2012. It seems that our sister’s passing was the final event; as Mamo was not able to overcome that sadness. This left a huge void in the lives of Mamo and Adam for the next eleven months. Being only 20 years of age Adam was left with a huge responsibility and did step forward to the best of his ability. Danny made constant visits before and after work on a daily basis. David never failed to call every weekend and his visit in Mamo’s final month was invaluable as Mamo we felt was responding very positively. Unfortunately, it was not to be as Mamo was hospitalized with what was described as a touch of pneumonia. Quickly this escalated to kidney, heart and lung complications. She was released under the care of hospice on Oct 9 and expired peacefully in Danny’s home six days later.
Mamo in addition to her two sons is survived by her daughters-in-law, Libby and Linda, four grandsons Brian, Aaron, Adam and Mark, three great-grand children Jocelyn, Madison and Christopher. Many nieces and nephews whom have truly stepped forward in giving our mom and us their loving support and prayers. A special thanks to Virginia Ramirez a truly special friend and neighbor. Thanks to all of you.
“Mamo things will not be the same without you, after 90+ years of loving you and you loving us, that love will never cease as we will continue to pray for you, Pop and Sylvia, that you are all together again and that some day we will also be rejoined with you all. May you rest in peace.”
Visitation from 4pm to 9pm on Sunday Oct. 20 with rosary at 7pm, at Del Angel/Martin chapel on Montana St. with Funeral mass at Our Lady of Assumption Parish at 12:15pm.
Burial will be at Ft. Bliss Cemetery.
