He graduated from El Paso High School in 1951, immediately enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a SSgt and returned to his high school sweetheart Luz Gaytan in El Paso. After dating for 8 years, they married in December 1955. Using his GI Bill, Ernesto graduated from Texas Western College in June 1962 with a Bachelors of Science-Physics degree. After graduating from TWC, he worked as an Aeronautic Engineer for Boeing from 1962-1971. With the support of his wife, they opened their own construction company The Carrizal Company in 1971 where they worked until retiring in 2006. Ernesto’s lifelong hobbies included cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and traveling to his favorite city of San Francisco, CA. He was a season ticket holder for UTEP Basketball and hardly missed a game in 30 years.
Ernesto is survived by his spouse of 66 years Luz Carrizal; his daughters Cynthia Acosta, Corinne Shepherd (Glen A Shepherd) and Mary Brower (Richard Brower); his sons Ernesto Carrizal III (Lupe Carrizal) and Michael Carrizal; his brother Jose Carrizal; his granddaughters Casey Acosta (Alvaro Sifuentes), Sarah Acosta, Amelia McEachin (Joseph McEachin) and Abigail Shepherd; his grandsons Diego Carrizal and Jonathan Brower (Lindsay Brower); his great-grandsons Gael McEachin, Noah Brower and Kai Brower.
Ernesto was preceded in death by his mother Genoveva M. Carrizal and his father Ernesto Carrizal; his brothers Rodolfo Carrizal, Carlos Carrizal, Salvador Carrizal and Robert Carrizal; and his sister Mary Panther.
Visitation for Ernesto will be held Friday, October 14, 2022, from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903. Rosary and Funeral Mass will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3729 Hueco Ave. El Paso, TX 79903 beginning at 12:15 PM with Mass at 1:00 PM. Committal service to follow at 2:30 PM at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson, El Paso, TX 79906.
