Jose (Joe) L. Fierro, age 90, passed away in his home on Sunday evening, February 15, 2026. Born in Clint, Texas in 1935, Joe lived in El Paso most of his life. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in 1953 and later studied engineering at Texas Western College (UTEP).
Joe served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict from 1954-1958. After an honorable discharge from active service, Joe worked as a defense contractor for Raytheon Corporation (RTX) for 42 Years as a Systems Engineer working on the Hawk, Patriot, and Tomahawk weapon systems. Known for his unmatched work ethic and expertise on these various systems, Joe was often requested by the militaries of Spain, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates to travel there for tours of work. Joe was a long-time member of the El Paso Basketball Officials Association.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Ursula (Leyva) Fierro, sister Adela, and brothers Robert and Tomas.
Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years Irene Fierro, sister, Ernestina Rowden (Joy, deceased), children Joe Jr., Jim (Diana), Patricia Phillips (John, deceased), and Zippy (Gaylon), beloved grandchildren Matthew Phillips Fierro, Madison Fierro, Cecily Dunlap, Austin Fierro, and Jacob McAlpine, great grandchildren, Parker, Nora, and Becca Dunlap, Tristian and Mikayla Fierro, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Joe lived his life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 4805 Byron St, El Paso, TX 79930 on March 5, 2026. The rosary will be held at 10:30 am with the funeral mass to follow at 11:30 am; Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson, Ave. El Paso, Texas 79906 at 1:00 pm.
