Jose Fernando Montes was born April 19, 1947, to Jesus Maria Montes and Bertha Montes Porras in El Paso, Texas. He passed away at University Medical Center on January 31, 2025.
Jose Fernando’s brothers are Alfredo (Deceased), Juan Manuel, Luis Antonio, and Jorge Ricardo. His sisters are Maria Teresa, Bertha Alicia (Carpenter), Concepcion Margarita (Bravo) and Cecilia Carolina (Pearson).
His nephews include Gabriel, Adrian, Jesus, Jaime, Pablo, Antonio and Aaron. He has many grandnephews: Senquay (Deceased), Luis Adrian, Mateo, Juano, Vicente, Enrique, Joaquin, Alex, Dante, and Abraham.
Jose Fernando’s nieces are Patty, Marie, Xochi, Anna, Victoria, Rosalinda, And Michay. Grandnieces include Rebecca, Leah, Chloe, Vivian and Aria Hope.
Jose Fernando graduated from Jesuit High School. He received his Pre-law degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and his Law degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. While attending Jesuit High School he worked for Our Lady’s Youth Center in the Segundo Barrio and coached Little League baseball for the Knights of Columbus. He served in the Navy as a radio man. After receiving his law degree from Catholic University, he became a lawyer for the El Paso Legal Services where he helped the poor, especially in the Segundo Barrio. He would go out of his way to help “Viejitas” who appreciated his help. He also served as the student Legal Counsel at UTEP. Then he started his Private Law practice.
Jose Fernando Will always be remembered in our hearts as our dearest brother, uncle and granduncle.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79903.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2709 Alabama St, El Paso, Texas 79930, with a Committal Service to follow in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, Texas 79906.
