Luz “Lucy” Aurora (Mellado) Aceves

Born on March 13, 1924 in El Paso as the eldest child of Ramon Mellado and Francisca (Armijo) Mellado; she is survived by her sisters, Ana Caldera, Lilia Paz, and Belia Parra. Lucy is preceded in death by her sister, Emma Porras, and her brother, Ramon Mellado, Jr. To her siblings, she was affectionately known as “Willie.”

The loving mother of 3, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Sylvia Irene (Flores) Echemendia and Hilda Ida (Aceves) Keoho; and is survived by her son, Fernie R. Aceves. Lucy was the treasured grandmother of David, Salvador, and Laura Talavera; Shannon and Keith McGuire and Kelani (Keoho) Daniels; and Lisa (Aceves) Hayes, Rebecca (Aceves) Rodriguez and Anthony Aceves. She had 12 great-grandchildren.

Lucy was a graduate of Bowie High School and made her career as a retail manager in women’s apparel (Franklin’s).

Lucy will be remembered for her sharp tongue, her luck at bingo, her love of TV game shows and jigsaw puzzles, and her never-ending devotion to her family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Martin Funeral Home – Central from 5PM until 9PM with a Rosary at 7:30PM. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 12:30PM at Our Lady of the Light with interment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
