Richard worked at The Popular Dry Goods Company with over 25 years and many hours of hard work and dedication. He later moved on to work for Rudolph Miles & Sons for several years and finally retired from UPS as a clerk. He was also an educator at St. Joseph, Our Lady of Assumption and St. Raphael Catholic Schools.
He took great pride in being part of the Knights of Columbus. Richard was also a member and participated in activities, which included the state convention in 1974, El Paso Jaycees in 1975, TV Auction and the Alert League of Emergency Radio Team in 1977 and El Paso Junior Chamber of Commerce for Juarez Milk fund in 1987. Richard was awarded the Outstanding Young Men of American, Law Enforcement Officer of the month, and the outstanding member of the Diocese OEP from 1989 thru 1992 and completed the Tepeyac Inc. Ministry program.
Aside from his work and accomplishments, Richard enjoyed playing and watching basketball along with other sports such as golf. He also took pleasure in playing flash cards, cross word puzzles and reading.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Modesto and Minerva Gomez; brother, Ronnie D. Gomez; paternal grandparents, Modesto A. Gomez, Sr. and Maria De Jesus Gomez; maternal grandparents, Martin and Raquel Miles. He is survived by his loving wife, of 49 years, Alicia T. Gomez; son, Richard J. Gomez; daughter, Rebecca A. Gomez; granddaughter Reanne A. Gomez, and his brother, Raul A. Gomez (Gail).
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a celebration of life at 6:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903 (915) 566-3955. Graveside service will be Wednesday, August 14th at 10:30 AM in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Richard will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
