He was the owner of Escalante Sign Co., a family-owned business (which included the five children and relatives) of sign painters. He was proud to provide a home and safety net for all of his children. He was much involved with the El Paso Diablos at the Dudley Field, painting all advertisements and anything that required paint. Roberto was also involved with the Golden Gloves which gave him a position of prestige that he was proud of. Another of many enjoyments was being able to travel with his wife, Ofelia, and granting her wishes to visit different parts of foreign countries. He enjoyed eating healthy and unhealthy foods, watching T.V., especially action movies, and reading the El Paso Times. Roberto enjoyed nature and when he had the opportunity in Cloudcroft, he would spend hours watching herds of deer, blue jays, squirrels and even skunks. One of the most important values of his culture was having close and extended family visit and stay at their home because that's what made Ofelia happy. Roberto will be missed by many, especially his five children who were blessed to have had him as a father, the all-American boy from Torreon.
