Rod was a Good Guy.  Just ran across this obit as I searched his name to forward a photo I took at our 1961 Austin reunion (in 2011) where, of course, Rod and “The Intruders” were the featured band.
Because I was a tall, slender kid who wore dark, thick- rimmed glasses in the early 60’s, I carried a Buddy Holly look about me that Rod and the whole band turned into a greeting anytime I appeared at a venue where they were playing.
“Buddy Holly”, “Hey, Buddy Holly is here”, the whole band would shout-out.
Just another cool memory about a nice, extremely talented musician who has moved-on.

my condolences to the family and friends of Rod.  I only met him once...at our Burges High School 1968 50th Reunion.  He was very nice.  His music will live on.  So Rod lives on in our memories, along with Bobby Fuller and Buddy Holly.


I just saw that Rod had passed away. Someone so special will not be forgotten. I met Rod Many years ago (1966-1968) when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss TX & saw him many times at the NCO club playing with the Intruders. after many years of not seeing him I decided to look him up about 2 years ago & we started to communicate via emails.I am heart broken beyond words that he has passed away..

Rod is the Greatist Brother a person could have. Ill never forget those complex talks we had about the Universe. Gone but never forgotten. I love you Brother!































Rod Crosby was instrumental in so many factors of my life. He introduced me to many of the people who became lifelong friends of mine.  As a fresh musician, Rod gathered me in and taught me the ropes as he could see my eagerness to learn. He will always be in my memory, as one of the sweetest but stern individuals I ever knew.  Thanks for the all the help my brother, love and light.

Every El Paso musician knew Rod and probably has Rod to thank for recordings or sound equipment they rented from him. Rod was a local legend. This really is the end of an era for El Paso music. Thanks for everything you did for El Paso rock and roll the past 60 years. 

Rod was always known for his exuberance for rehearsal.  If we had a job 6 months out, he would want to rehearse right away.  The last thing he said to me just a couple of weeks ago was "see ya' at rehearsal!" 

Rod, you were and will remain a true Border Legend and El Paso Musical Icon and I'm honored to have called you my friend and brother. You will be greatly missed...



Rod, I was responsible for booking the bands for the Cathedral High School dances in 1974. At $1.00 a head,  "Rod Crosby & The Intruders" would always pack them in. The money went towards the 33% of Cathedral that went on scholarship due to financial difficulty. You were Always Professional. On time. And of course, who could ever forget your signature hits---Color My World and Nights In White Satin? Thank You for So Many Wonderful Memories. God Bless you and Your Family. I’ll never forget the perfect sound of your steel guitar and the not-so-perfect sounds I made when you let me try to play it after a Border Legends show. You made it look so easy. Effortless. I had admired your playing for a long time—since you performed at my high school graduation party in 2003. But the best part of that show, and the many shows I’d see later, was Sleepwalk. You always nailed it and I was always giddy to hear it. Sleepwalk is now my all-time favorite song. I’ll think of you every time I hear it. First, thank you for the many memories we shared since I first met you in 1969.  It was an honor to be involved with you in so many ways - everything from booking your groups, working side-by-side with you at the El Paso Scottish Rite shows we produced and, our obvious achievement, producing the Border Legends of El Paso Concert series. You earned your stripes as being El Paso’s Rock ‘n Roll General. You led the way for so many musicians. You truly are and will always be known as an El Paso music legend - our Border Legend!
Love you forever my friend…we’ll see you on the other side.

1ST studio I ever recorded at was at Rod,s studio. It was a  learning experience. He was a hard working man. Experience,d in all aspects of music. Thanks for all the help thru all the years Rod. See you on down the road. 


My condolences to the family and friends of Rod Crosby.  He was truly a legend and great help to so many of us who tried to create music in our hometown.  For my generation, I cannot think of any others who had as much influence and impact on the local music scene than Rod.  May he rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him.  

It was at my sister Patty's house in the late hours after my Dad's funeral, you left momentarily and came back in with your guitar and gave us the gift of your sweet music. We all sang together while you strummed on your guitar, and what began as a sad day ended peacefully with a smile. Thank you. Rest in Peace Rod. My heart goes out to friends, family and the music community. ⚘

I remember when I first met Rod Crosby - I was rather star-struck, as I clearly remembered him and the Intruders appearing on Steve Crosno's Saturday afternoon TV show (akin to El Paso's own "American Bandstand"), from when I was a young 'teen.  
Rod and I spent multiple family gatherings talking & sharing our opinions (as he did with lots of folks), whether we agreed or not.  One thing we did  agree on was our reference to our family-connection as "out-laws" (vs "in-laws").   I will miss you Rod...hope when you get to the here-after, you get to jam with some of the legendary musicians you spoke of so frequently.  

The Intruders were the premier band in El Paso when I went to Burges  (1967-1970).  They were a hard band to book, every school wanted them for that special occasion.
Rod took great care to get every detail right when the band covered all the greats of the 60's. It was like listening to the original recording.
Rod and I became friends when he helped me plan a tribute to Bobby Fuller on the 25th anniversary of his death for a radio show I co-host on KTEP-Folk Fury.
Rod's insights and stories of the 60's allowed listeners to understand how exciting the music scene was in El Paso when the Intruders were competing with The Bobby Fuller Four, Long John Hunter, and later, the Electric Flag, Westhampton Barge and others.
I remember when he called after learning Steve Crosno had passed. We talked for a long time about Steve's contribution to the El Paso music scene.  I think all of us today, when thinking of Rod, will agree that he also made El Paso more vibrant and "hip" because of his music and great knowledge of recording.  He and his band made events so much more entertaining because of their professional approach and enthusiasm toward the music. And, he made many a group sound better because of his magic as a producer and sound engineer.
He will be missed.

Rod was very kind and extremely generous with his talent.  His technical skills kept many an El Paso artistic show moving forward smoothly.  The lights with the flames were always fun!  The dancers at Zills in the Desert were fortunate to have him taking care of our shows' sound and light aspects.  We are very grateful for our time with him and Patty.

He helped all the musicians in El Paso he would fix our speakers and get lights for the light shows a true “music man”  Will be missed!?  Much love, From Keith Henderson & the great political junkie band!!!

I will never forget the evenings spent listening and dancing to the Intruders as a teenager at various locations around El Paso. And later in life, it was a pleasure getting to know Rod and listening to all his stories and memories. My prayers are with his wife, Patricia. He will be missed.
