Bill was born to Mary Louise and Martin Matyear on May 22nd, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. Always a hardworking man, he was working at his father's dairy by the age of 7. At age 15, tired of working in the dairy, he ran away. He traveled around the country by "hopping trains" and finally ended up in El Paso, where his aunt and uncle lived. In El Paso, he got a job working for Mac Millan Construction and fell in love with construction. It was during the time he was working for H and Y Construction that he met his loving wife of almost 66 years, Sara E. Rodriguez. They had one son, their pride and joy, William Matyear Jr.
Shortly afterwards, Bill started his own construction company DBA Matyear Construction Company and was later joined by son Billy. He ran a very successful company for close to 60 years, when he retired.
Bill loved his family and his business. Work was play and he truly believed that "if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life."
Bill loved traveling, with favorite places being Disneyland, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Italy where he wanted to return to but never made it. He also enjoyed fishing, collecting toys, coloring and teaching his grandchildren how to color, and watching old Westerns on TV.
He is survived by his wife Sara; son Billy Jr. and long time girlfriend Lisa Ramirez; Sister, Mary Jane Treff; Sisters in law Carmen Jacques and Alicia Rodriguez; grandchildren Athena Matyear and Lauren Gubina; as well as Sandra (Bill) Russell who was like the daughter he never had and her husband Bill Russell who was loved as well; their children who were also grandchildren, Christopher Russell, Whitney (Walter) Rearick, Nikki (Anthony) Williams, and Kimberly Russell and the 4 great grandchildren as well as family and friends who loved him.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, sister Eleanor Leal, brother Robert Matyear, and best friends James Rasso, Alfred 'Lelo' Jacques, and Don Melendez.
