

Dr. James R. Bishop, 91, of Evansville, passed away, Thursday, February 09, 2017, at West River Health Campus. He was born February 19, 1925, in Evansville, IN to the late Jacob Edward and Deloris Victoria (Bumm) Bishop.
He graduated from Reitz High School and joined the US Navy at the age of 17 during WWII. He graduated from the University of Evansville and St. Louis University School of Dentistry. James was a dentist for 50 years in his own practice. He attended Methodist Temple when his health allowed him, and was a member of Evansville Historic Society. He was also a 60 year member of the West Side Nut Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and took periodic hunting trips to Colorado.
James was preceded by his first wife, Sharleen Bishop; second wife, Barbara June Bishop; brothers, Bill, Pat and Ed; and sister, Mary.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Karen) and Kent (Clare) Bishop; grandchildren, Kendra, Scott (Sarah), Shaun and Jeremy Bishop; and great-grandchildren, Flannery, Piper and Azaylah Bishop.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mike Pyle, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
