Laurie and family; I am so sorry for your loss and know that words can not help to ease your pain at this time. Please know that Coach Padgett was a great teacher, coach and friend to all his students. I will never forget his kindness in allowing the girls of his phys ed class to do weight training! May not sound like much now, but it meant much to me as a young teen!!

Dear Merle, Laurie, and Rob,
I will never forget the wonderful years of living next door to you on Powell Avenue.  My parents, Ginny and Gene Hudson adored all of you.  Of course David also, Robbie was born later and we were so happy to meet him in later years.  Bob always called my Mother, Ginger.  No one could say it the way he did. Those years were great.
I was 16 and Bob and Merle were 26 or 27 I believe.  I always tell so many people about our fun times together.  Merle and Laurie, my
prayers and thoughts to you.  I will never forget him.  With love and fondness, Susie Hudson Gordon.

After my father, Bob Padgett was simply the most influential man in my life.  He taught us the importance of self-discipline, teamwork, fairplay, respect and sacrifice.  When I visited him after he stopped coaching, it was clear he still followed his boys and cared about us.  In my mind's eye, his influence was always there on the  sidelines of life ready to kick me in the butt if I wasn't giving it my all.  Class of 1972, member of 1971 team.

Merle,this little prayer was given to Chuck & I when we lost our daughter.

God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest.  God's garden must be beautiful.  He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well again on earth. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
May God comfort you and your family during this time.

remembering the Coach, always had his pipe smoking like a chimney in his office at the Field House, with the assistant coaches, Don Henry, Jack Schaefer, Tom Young.....looking at the game films, questioning which players to concintrate on for the best effect.

WE LIVED A HALF BLOCK APART, OUR PATHS CROSSED AT BOSSE AND YOU MARRIED A VERY SPECIAL PERSON TO ME. THE "STURGIS FLASH" EMBRACED THE TRUE "SPIRIT" OF OUR MEMORIES. OUR MEETING AGAIN LAST JULY WAS A REAL VISIT TO OUR PAST.

Bob, you made my days at The Hickory Pit! The stories that you told, me cleaning your glasses that I never could figure out how you even could see out of them.LOL I will never be able to watch The Andy Griffith Show again without hearing you saying "Isnt this a great show, I love this show, they just dont make them like this anymore, "Dont you think its funny" You were such a joy to be around. Lets not forget when you walked in smiling because the license bureau made a mistake and reissued your license and the 5 seat belt tickets in a month! Dear Family,  I am so sorry to read about Bobby.  I live in AZ now and was not aware he had been ill.  He was sure passionate about his football.  My Dad, James Brown, thought he had hit the jackpot when he landed the coaching position after Herman Byers. 
Reitz Fans thought they had hit the jackpot when he won State. My daughter and I both graduated from Reitz and my Dad was an R-Man.  He "helped", Bobby ever chance he got. He thought theworld of him.  I know you will miss him.  Let you good times and memories carry you through this difficult time.  Our family will be waiting to embrace him upstairs.  Deepest Sympathy for your loss.

To Merle and Family, I'm sorry for the passing of Bob and the kids dad. It's been years since we've communicated. We were good friends and my ex husband and Bob were very good friends in their high school days. We then were couple friends until moves and distance drew us apart. God Bless You Coach ,it has always been a Honor to have played for you.

We moved from the Evansville area many years ago so it has been a long time since I spoke with or saw Bob. He was a good man and will be missed.  I always enjoyed my time with him.

I was fortunate to get to know Mr. Padgett a year ago and got to spend some time traveling around area small towns visiting with businesses, most insurance companies that his glass company catered to.  He wanted so much to fit back in the real world, after he has suffered a major stroke a number of yrs.ago.  He seemed to be doing better the first 1/2 of the year and always had a big smile to greet the day. One thing he never forgot was he had been a coach, and directions to every place we went to.  He had a built in GPS I think.  A strong personality but you just had to know how to read him.  Very much missed.
