I worked with Virgil at Crescent City Security (Interstate Imaging). He was a wonderful man and a good friend to me.  I enjoyed going to lunch with him and Bill Pendleton at Jya's.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Virgil was my very first boyfriend and first love! I was in the sixth grade and lived on Johnson Lane.  I remember his curly hair, smile, and thought he was absolutely the most handsome boy ever!  He would come out on some weekends to visit his uncle and aunt who also lived on Johnson Lane.  I thought he was SO smart and funny too! But, as life happens, I moved away and never saw him again after grade school over 50 years ago. But no girl ever forgets her first boyfriend and I've often wondered about him.  Even though I was a Reitz High girl I did end up marrying a Bosse guy, class of '59 who went to heaven two years ago.  

My heartfelt condolences to the family on your loss.  I hope you will find some comfort in this poem:

         I am so sorry to hear about Virg.  I was out of town and could not make it in time for the service.  Virg was like my older brother for so many years and I looked up to him and loved him very much. Me and my family send our condolences to you and the kids! Good by to my favorite uncle.

I went to HS with Virgil, but never really knew him much at the time.  But over the years I got to know him over coffee at the Donut Bank and found him to be a very nice person and a fine gentleman.  I ran across him about a month or so ago at Dennys and we had a nice conversation.  I will miss Virgil.

So sorry to read of Virgil's passing.  Am happy we had such a great conversation at the 50th Reunion, Bosse Class of 1960.   May God give you comfort at this time of loss.

I didn't know Virgil real well, but Larry Thieman, Bob Simpson, Jim Scagiarri and myself together with Virgil wore those "James Dean" red nylon jackets and thought we were pretty cool at Bosse HS.  Virgil was a little older than we were.  He had his drivers license and a car which make him a lot cooler.  Always a real nice person is how I remember Virgil.  I regret not making an effort to renew our friendship later in life. It was nice to read how others have remembered him.

I had the pleasure of serving with Virgil during my early days on the Department.  He was always a man well respected by all of his fellow officers.  I never personally worked with Virgil, but always admired him greatly.  I know that he is in the loving arms of our LORD now, and we can only hope we will be as fortunate ourselves one day.  I don't get out much these days, so please forgive for not coming by and giving my personal condolences.

Bonnie and Families, so sorry to hear  the passing of Virgil. We go back a long way which is grade school days, he was a neighbor and we were little boy and girl friends in the 5th grade. Bonnie you and I went to the same high school, and I will never forget that one day you and Virgil was in Wal-Mart, and my husband Carl and I was in there and I introduced you and Virgil to my husband, the first thing that Virgil said to my husband, Gayle was the first girl that I ever had Kissed and she taught me how to Kiss, I laughed and laughed and said Virgil tell him that was in grade school the fifth grade. We all laughed, he was so funny always making people laugh. Bonnie you have lost a great man and I thank God that you had him with you as long as you did. May God Bless You and be with you through this sad time. Keep up your strength and faith in God and he will see you and the families through it all. So sorry to read of the loss of this gentleman. Virgil was one of those guys with whom you immediately felt at ease. His humor and common sense were greatly appreciated by me as an EPD rookie 30 years ago. He'll be missed greatly. Prayers for his family.

So sorry to read about Virgil this morning. I remember him when shopping at old K-Mart and at Deaconess Hospital. He was always so kind and had a great smile. God be with the family during this time. Sending love and prayers.

I would like to express our deepest condolences on behalf of the Evansville Police Pension Board.  Virgil was always great to be around and could brighten your day with his sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed.

Wonderful man, trusted friend, hard worker who always brought humor and laughter into the room.  Virgil was greeted in heaven, I am certain, by his dear friend Howard Davis.

Very sorry to hear of Virgil's passing.  I worked with Virgil when I was in college at the old K-mart.  He was one of several great officers that I met there.  Those guys were one of the reasons I became an officer.  Virgil was a really fine guy.  Condolences to the family.

It breaks my heart to read this.  May God Bless you and your family, Bonnie.  Sick as he was, Virgil made it to Jim's funeral October 2.  They were great friends and working buddies.

To the Phipps family: I have fond, fond memories of working with Virgil at Deaconess and am chuckling as I write this, thinking of how much fun he was to spend time with.  As far as I know, Virgil is the only friend I've had who can lay claim to brawling with "The Killer," Jerry Lee Lewis.  He was a good man and now that he has joined Joe Rood and his other Deaconess pals in heaven, I'm sure he's entertaining them with his stories. Take care and know that Virgil's smile will be sorely missed.
