Wow - three years already? This is a great memorial, Lynn, so many great comments! I'm sorry poor health kept my Mom and Al from seeing each other as things came to a close for Al. A good lesson to the 'new. old' generation to get those visits in while you can! We do have the memories of that generation, but not the same as the wisdom and wit which Al provided to the end...

I'm so glad I got to know Al,he was a person you could talk to about anything,we talked about so many things in both our lives. Lynn used to bring him over on a nice day and we would sit out on the deck and just gab. Thanks for sharing your dad with me, he also always have a special place in my heart

As Al's physical therapist, I can certainly say he added so much to our clinic.  He was just so fun to be around.  He always had a great sense of humor and was very motivated to do well.  I loved that he started his treatment with a cup of coffee.  And I will remember how he called me "Mother Superior".  He was the only patient who claimed to know what happened to  Jimmy Hoffa so I will remember him whenever it comes on the news that there is yet another search.  Al was a ton of fun and I will always remember him first and foremost as a good friend and secondly as a great patient who made coming to work fun!  Since I was his "Mother Superior" , now he is my clinic's "Patron Saint"  So he better help me when I need it!  Lynne took such good care of him for that last year. I know he is enjoying watching over you. And I know he is looking down on all of us and enjoying the daily antics with a heavenly cup of coffee in hand.  May he rest in peace!  We will surely miss Al!

I have so many memories of Grandpa that I could share, whether it is the trip to Seaworld with Grandma when I was a little kid, playing in the pool at their house, the trip to Catalina Island with Virginia, Kelly, and Eric in 2001, or the memories of the last few years of visits with him in Monroe.  The funniest memory of him would be when he would let out a big loud belch and Grandma would shout back "Albert!"...that never got old.  LOL.  

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him in Granada Hills in the summer of 2012 right before he moved to Monroe.   The picture posted is of him and I in his living room in Granda Hills during that summer visit. 

I think my best memory of him will be the last times I spent with him this past May.  We were in his room at my mom and dad's house and we looked at some photo albums that Judy made and watched some Everybody Loves Raymond together.  Although unspoken, we both new that these would be the last times we would spend together.  Once it got late, we gave each other a big hug...I gave him a kiss on the forehead and told him that I loved him...he said the same thing back.  

I think about my grandparents daily.  All of them mean a lot to me.  Grandpa Al was special because of his strong character, tough mind, and gentle heart.  He made an impact on the lives around him.  

I love you, Granpa.  I think about you daily and will always miss you.

We didn't get to know Al until a few years ago but in that time we fell in love!  Underneath all his endlessly dry humor is the most kind and caring person you could ever hope to meet.  We miss you Al.  Thank you for sharing your stories and advice with all of us.  Love you!

My Mr. Al...that's what I called him! Where do I begin. I met Al & Aldy back in 2004. Little did I know that I would become their trusted advisor and friend of the family. When Aldy passed away, I had a new lunch date! Will most definetly miss my semi-monthly lunch dates trying out new restaurants, you sitting in my office as I worked while I put classical music on my computer so you could rest your eyes and pet Kayla my yellow Lab but mostly, I'm going to miss how such a funny guy  taught me some "lessons on life". Who knew! I will cherish that forever in my heart. Lynn & Phil...you are both amazing for giving the best gift anyone could give and that's unconditional love and devotion during his last few months. But most of all, I want to thank you both for embracing me into your family and allowing me the last few months to visit and spend time with him. All My Love to my Mr. Al and his wonderful family. Heaven is smiling now that your with Aldy.

For many years we watched Al and Aldy come and go from across the street on Tennyson Pl. We watched Lynn, Judy, and Tom grow up and leave home.  And, for the last 4+ years, since Aldy's death, we kept an extra eye on Al.  Guess we got to know him best in these recent years.  My fondest memories are when our 2 yellow labs would get out they'd run into Al's yard and I was so afraid he would be upset at their intrusion.  But Al would just laugh and seemed to get such a kick out of the dog's rambunctiousness.  More recently we discovered Al liked classical music and took such pleasure in attending the choral concerts that I performed in.  We missed him a lot this last year but so glad he got to spend it much closer to Lynn and the rest of the family with all that wonderful love and care.  Now we miss our periodic phone conversations. But we are relieved  that he's at rest now and his life had a peaceful and loving end.  May your fondest memories comfort all of you.

Lynn and Phil, you 2 are amazing!!! You gave Al the most wonderful gift there is... the gift of time.  You were there for him with unconditional love and I can only magine how much that meant to him.  You were surrounded with family and friends to help you as you gave him a dignified passing. He'll be watching over you.

We remember Al coming to our house for dinner one time. We cooked up elk steak special for him because he liked it so much. He sure was a funny guy.

We will always hold fond thoughts of Al in our few get togethers,and his instant memory of the boxer boys dogs we had that really impressed him with happy thoughts.

My dad was funny, nice and loved his game shows. I will miss him and his laugh but we are grateful for the time we all had with him. Now he is in Heaven with my mom and I bet they are having a blast together! Love ya Dad!
