Alex Corotas was born at home in Ludlow PA. He and his parents Christos and Polyxeni, and sister Bessie moved to Everett WA in 1948 and continued to live and work in Everett. He liked to talk about how they arrived on a train and were welcomed with the smell of Bargreen’s Coffee roasting nearby. He loved to tell stories about growing up in Everett on Walnut within a vibrant Greek community. He attended Monroe Elementary School, North Junior High, Perpetual Help (where he played football, and for which he had a great love and support) and graduated from Everett High School. He took college courses at Edison High School in Seattle, driving there by day after working night shift at Weyerhaeuser. He often spoke about how much he liked working at Weyerhaeuser. He felt the same about Western Gear he was a shop steward and made many life long friends working there on the Everett Waterfront until it was sold to make way for Naval Station Everett,
From a young age, he had a great love of cars. He taught himself how to care for them. Alex told stories about bringing home $50 jalopies to his parents' dismay. They were sometimes convinced that these cars would never run, but he usual could, sometimes with the help of a hill and a jump start. He used to cruise Colby with his friends showing off their vehicles and one of his favorite events for the past 20 plus years was revisiting Colby for The Memorial Day Cruising Colby car show. He went every year of this car show except 2024, walking and talking to his friends for hours and having a great time.
He was self-taught in building and creating things. He built furniture which he shared with friends and family and icon stands for churches. He also worked on home additions and remodels.
A lifetime lover of cats, he built a large “Catio” on the back of his home which his cat Lanna has enjoyed for years.
As a young man in his early 20’s, he married and had a family. He so loved his children, Steve, Alexia and Maria, grandchildren, and so very much adored his great grandchildren. He was always happy to get a visit from Gabrielle, Luccus, Demetri, Sam, Asher and Xander.
He was a faithful steward of his church. Becoming a Parish Council member at St Demetrios and later enjoyed his time at the then new St Andrews Orthodox Church at Arlington where he helped out with many projects including planting a fig tree which is still there and has grown large. He was also happy to welcome and participate in the start of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church.
