Having worked at Katmai Lodge for eight years in the infancy of my guiding career, I was saddened to learn of Tony’s passing.  Tony gave me the opportunity to spend time and hone my skills on one of the great rivers of the world, the Alagnak.  I watched how he dealt with a myriad of things, from the logistical challenges of a remote fly-in lodge, to the various expectations and personalities of both guides and guests, and applied much of what I learned to my own growing business.  
So many of the young guides that passed through the lodge over the years are still in the industry today, and I believe that has to be included as part of Tony’s legacy.  
Today, over 20 years removed from my guiding days on the Alagnak, I still think about the river, the knowledge gained,  and how lucky I was to be a part of the Katmai Lodge experience... and I’m grateful to Tony for that opportunity.

To say Tony was a character would truly be an understatement.... a dynamic individual to say the least... The opportunities Tony provided for me gave me a life that most people dream about. He saw in me what nobody else would. For that, among many other things, I will never forget him...I am blessed to have been a part of his life and his dreams at Katmai.. He will forever be the creator of the largest freshwater Lodge in the world. May he rest in peace

Tony was such a huge part of my adventurous life I have had. Not just my time in AK, but the times I had while working at the Seattle office. Our morning coffee sales trainings sent me down a path that allowed me to travel the world and I still use his teachings every day. One of the biggest characters in my life and lots of stories shared.
Thanks Tony, I'll miss you.
