Archie was born February 2, 1917, in Taylor, Wisconsin, one of ten children, born to William and Emma (Mains) Rumppe. He was of humble heritage, a youngster raised in rural locations during the Great Depression Era. At an early age, Archie felt God’s call to Christian ministry. He never questioned that call and devoted his life to Christian service. On December 22, 1942, Archie married Imogene Deckert who worked lovingly beside him until she passed away March, 2015. Together they served 47 years in the Free Methodist ministry: 20 years in Wisconsin, 7 years in California and 20 years in Washington including pastorates in Spokane, Tacoma, Bellingham and Oroville. His résumé included the pioneering of congregations and construction of churches. Upon retirement in 1985, Archie served for 11 years as visitation pastor for the Everett Free Methodist Church. Archie was a dedicated pastor who faithfully served God throughout his life. He believed in the “power of prayer” and cherished the memories of God’s miraculous work in the lives of many people. He had the “heart of a shepherd,” a pastor who ministered to his congregations with gentle compassion, steadfast care and spiritual nurture. He had a wealth of wonderful friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
Archie will be lovingly remembered by his sons, David (Barbara) Rumppe and James (Robin) Rumppe; daughter, Ruth (Gary) Howell; grandchildren, Nicole Frederic, Scott (Alissa) Howell, Mitchell (Marina), Kyle and David Rumppe; great-granddaughter, Cece Howell; brother-in-law, Keith (Myra) Deckert, many cherished nieces and nephews.
