Cecil “Dick” Garrison Polk passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his home in Stanwood. He was born September 12, 1931 in Alice, Texas, to Bunyan and Lucy Polk. Cecil grew up in Texas and New Mexico as the oldest of his siblings: Lloyd Polk (deceased), Shelby Polk, and Wadene Brown. He is survived by his wife Lois Polk, their two children Garrison Polk (spouse Maureen) and Noel Baier (spouse Steve), and his two younger siblings. He was known as “Uncle Dick” to his family and “Grandad” to his four granddaughters Alissa Baier, Amy Craig (spouse Sean), Brianne Nicholson (spouse Jon), and Molly Polk, as well as three great-granddaughters Moira, Zoe, and Everly.
Cecil met his sweetheart Lois as a teenager in Clovis, New Mexico. They married nearly a year later on February 2, 1952 in a double-wedding with her brother Cloyde Hillis and his bride Laura Walkup. Cecil and Lois would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 2, 2022.
After moving to Washington State in 1955, Cecil worked in home construction with his brother-in-law for a decade before founding his own company Polk Builders Inc. For the next thirty years, he built many single-family homes, built one church and assisted with another, and was often a humble giver of his skills and talents in home construction.
His hobbies included fishing, camping, and traveling down south in his RV during the winters. He was known for his sense of humor, his generosity, for being an honest businessman, and a follower of Jesus. He and Lois faithfully attended Bethany Christian Assembly and Silver Lake Chapel. His life will be celebrated in a private ceremony among immediate family members only, due to the ongoing pandemic. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Cecil’s name to Bethany Christian Assembly, specifically for compassion ministry.
