Edward William Linde, age 94, of Mukilteo, Washington passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Edward William Linde was born to the family of Herman and Julia Linde of Melville, North Dakota on March 9, 1928. Leonard Melvin joined the family in 1930. In November, 1931, Janet Marie was born. The family relocated to the farm southeast of Bordulac, North Dakota. He dearly loved his siblings.
Edward was educated in the Bordulac Public School and worked with his father on their diversified farm for several years. Ed loved farming.
Ed committed his life to the Lord at age twenty-two. He sensed the call of the Lord on his life to prepare for the ministry. He graduated from Lakewood Park Bible School in 1955.
Ed met Ruby in 1951 at his pastor's wedding. They married on June 15,1954, in a double wedding ceremony with Ruby's sister Cleo, and her fiancé, Leo Carlson.
Ed and Ruby stayed on the farm in North Dakota until 1962 when they moved to Rugby, North Dakota, to take Ed’s first pastorate position. Prior to that move, they weathered through crops being hailed out causing them to move to Washington state where they stayed with Ruby’s sister and her husband, Bonnie and Jim Kensinger. Ed worked at Foremost. They returned to the farm and continued to work the land Ed loved.
David Leonard Linde was joyfully welcomed to their family on July 26, 1957. Opal Renee joined the family on October 9, 1960, Ed and Ruby were elated to have a son and daughter!! Ed loved his family deeply and dearly. His family was always vitally important to him.
After faithfully serving the congregation in Rugby, the couple moved their family to Minneapolis, Minnesota, so Ed could further his education at North Central Bible College. He worked nights at Control Data, and attended classes during the day.
The Lord led Ed and his family to Karlstad, Minnesota, where he served as pastor from 1966-1973. The family enjoyed snowmobiling, tobogganing, ice skating, fishing, and church picnics. The services were powerful. The church had a choir with 15-20 young people who went on tour in the summer to several churches, ministering to them in song. Ruby led this choir, while Ed did the preaching. Many wonderful memories were made there. The congregation knew how to pray! They loved and cared deeply for their pastor and his family.
In March 1973, Ed, Ruby, and family relocated to Bushnell, Illinois, where he pastored until 1981. Both David and Opal graduated from high school here. Many friends were made. Ed was respected in the community, and could often be seen cruising around on his bicycle!
In May, 1981, Burlington, Washington became Ed and Ruby's next destination. Ed worked various jobs until he took the pastorate in Monroe, Washington, from 1984-1986.
Opal married Steve Oss in July of 1988. They had three children: Emily, Sarah, and Isaac. Ed and Ruby took care of these three for several years while Opal taught school. Many sweet memories were made at Grandpa and Grandmaś house: Helping Grandpa build things in the garage, tea parties; baking bread, picnics outside on the lawn, swimming in the pool, going to the playground, picking berries, and so many more adventures.
Ed became a well-loved custodian at Mountlace Terrace High school until he retired in 1995.
Ed and Ruby enjoyed making many trips back to North Dakota camp meetings where they reunited with many friends and family. Edward and Ruby loved stopping along the trek to visit Leonard and Janet and their families as well.
They happily took trips to Arizona and Indiana to visit David and his wife, Kathy, and their four children: Karissa, Joshua, David, and Rachelle. As time passed, they were so excited to attend the weddings of their grandchildren as well. Ed was elated to drive Dave’s John Deere tractor on one of his last visits to see Dave, Kathy, and their family. Ed and Ruby treasured these times together with their son and family.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Belle Linde; his parents, Herman Henry Linde and Julia Renetta Hoffaman Linde, three infant siblings as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Edward left a wonderful legacy behind. He was a servant. He put others before himself-always. He was loving, kind-hearted, fair, humble. He rarely talked about himself. He enjoyed encouraging others. He dearly and deeply loved his wife and family. God, family, church-those were his priorities-in that order. We will feel the void of his positive, uplifting presence.
David and Opal would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Harbour Point Adult Care Home for their excellent care given to Pastor the last six months of his life. Mamo, Jasmin, and Sherika poured their hearts into Pastor’s care. They went above and beyond expectations to care for him. We love them!!
