The family moved to Everett where Glen attended high school. He was a member of the swim team and as he tells it, mostly to make new friends. He was proud that, like all of his friendships, they lasted a lifetime.
After graduation, Glen served 4 years in the Navy as an electrician’s mate.
Glen married Sandra Miller in 1966. They settled in Marysville and were married almost 50 years until Sandra’s death in 2016.
Glen worked a variety of jobs but spoke most fondly of his 25 plus years at Johnson Printing in Everett. He was a talented artist. He illustrated several children’s books and cookbooks. He drew comical and court room proceedings sketches for the Everett Herald.
After retirement he taught a weekly art class in Fremont until the pandemic in 2020 and said it was more like a social hour because his students became like family.
Glen was mostly known as a gifted watercolor artist. He enjoyed traveling with other artist from local areas to Ireland to paint the different landscapes.
In true Glen fashion, he was modest and humble about his talents. A quote from the Marysville Art Walk held in 2012, “Everyone here has been so enthusiastic and kind, said Oberg who claimed his renditions of landscapes, seascapes and street scenes don’t require much effort.”
Glen will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty and wit.
Thanks to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County for their support and assistance in caring for Glen in his home until his passing on February 20th.
