Joe was born in Esmond, North Dakota where he worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Marine Corp to serve in the Korean War.
He returned home and was happily employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad for 36 years and was the United Transportation Union leader for 20 years in Everett. He retired in 1988.
Joe married his sweetheart Betty Scott in 1954. They then had 3 children; Jeff, Valerie and Wendy. Joe was a self-taught and talented carpenter. Over the years he built three beautiful homes for his family. He enjoyed camping, hiking and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and the swap meet at Puget Park Drive-In Theater.
Joe adored his grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew and loved to make them laugh by rattling off his auctioneering skills, dancing a jig or some other kind of silliness. He also has two great grandchildren; Isla and River.
Sadly Joseph was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s seven years ago. He lived his last four years at Brookdale of Silver Lake in Everett Washington. A special “Thank You” to the caregivers at Brookdale. He was very well cared for and we were all treated like family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 25th at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett, Washington 98203
