Kathy lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep care for those she loved, and a generous sense of humor. She loved to laugh, to dance, and to play music loud with her car windows down. She will be remembered for her warmth, her steady presence, her support of others, and the love she brought to her family.
Kathy met the love of her life, Bill Hayes, and they were married in 1966. They initially made their home in Everett before moving to Camino Island, where they spent the majority of their lives together raising their family. Kathy was a “beach girl” and cherished her time on Camano, as well as many summers on Whidbey Island.
Kathy was a wonderful cook, and many cherished family gatherings were held in their home on Camano Island. A remarkable crafter, Kathy’s creativity touched the lives of many. Her family and friends were grateful recipients of her beautiful handmade Santas during the holidays, lovingly sewn dresses, and carefully crafted jewelry-each piece a reflection of her thoughtfulness and talent.
Kathy had a strong work ethic, working at Western Gear and later with ESD 189, a regional support agency for schools in Washington State. “Flunking retirement,” she returned to work as administrative support for the Everett School District at both North Middle School and the Alternative High School.
In retirement, Kathy and Bill spent 12 years in Yuma, Arizona, where they enjoyed six months each year in the sunshine, building lasting friendships.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Bill Hayes; her children, Carrie Hayes, Suzie Myron (Derek), and Steve Hayes (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Cole Seegert, Jake Myron, Cater Myron, Grace Halderman, Gavin Baker, and Hudson Baker; her brother, Larry Sweeney (Patti); and her sister, Michelle Frost (Whitney). She is also survived by her nieces, Summer Sweeney-Baird and Lexi Frost; and her nephews, Patrick Baker, Shawn Brodel, Kelly Brodel, Michael H, Riley Poor, and Brennan Frost.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Olive Sweeney and sister, Mary Ellen Sweeney Brodel.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
