LeRoy D. Hunter, 87 years old of Marysville, Wa passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
LeRoy was born on Oct. 27th, 1936 to William and Ella Hunter in Wolf Point, Montana. They moved to Washington with his father's job on the Great Northern Railroad. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1955. After graduating, LeRoy served in the United States Naval Reserves for 8 years.
LeRoy met the love of his life Annette in 1957 at a school dance at Edmonds High School following the Edmonds-Marysville football game, where he asked her to dance and the rest is history. They married on Friday, August 19th, 1960 at the Greenlake Methodist Church in Seattle Wa. Leroy also was awarded 21 trophies and 3 best of shows for his 53 Oldsmobile, where he was in Hot Rod Magazine, Custom cars, and Rod and Custom Magazine.
LeRoy and Annette resided in Marysville, where they raised their two children Scott and Stacey. LeRoy worked at Scott Paper Company, starting in the mill and then was the Head of Logistics for Military and International Shipping. LeRoy also brought T-Ball to Marysville and was the MJAA President for many years, coaching and spending every weekend with his wife and children at Rudy Wright Field. LeRoy and his family were also very involved with the Marysville Strawberry Festival, helping to build the float and going to different festivals. After his Early Retirement from Scott Paper/Kimberly Clark, he was hired back as M&I Services (Military and International Services) as an independent consultant.
On his off time, LeRoy enjoyed wood working with his wife Annette, his Sister in Law Joyce, and daughter Stacey, participating in numerous craft shows including Leavenworth Autumn Leaf Festival, Apple Blossom in Wenatchee, Chautauqua days and numerous craft shows, selling his amazing wood creations. They loved attending the Husky and Seahawk games where they have been Season Ticket Holders since the August 1st 1975 in the Kingdome. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife and family at their vacation home near Lake Wenatchee, spending every winter snowmobiling, and summers with their family.
LeRoy was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, supporting his family with all of their school, sporting, and extracurricular activities including being a coach, a mentor, and everyone called him Papa, whether blood or not. He loved watching his grandsons play soccer, baseball, and football, writing every stat down to keep and go over in his spare time. Everyone wanted Papa to be their papa, and he took everyone in as his own.
He is preceded in death by his wife Annette and his sister Jeannine. He is survived by his son, Scott Hunter; daughter, Stacey (Donald) Nickell; sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson; nephew, Brad Buchanan (Jan); 10 grandchildren, Patrick, Jakob (Nicole), Ryan ( Haley), Andrew (Hannah), Joseph (Grace), Megan (Austin), Lukas, Bennet, Caden and AnaSofia, great grandchildren, Madyson, Jayden, Mayci, LeRoy, Nixon, Ya Ya, Nolan, Maverick, Vincent and Brynnlee, extended family Dede (Dave) Osborne.
A special Thanks to Continuum Hospice and Papa's amazing Nurse Amber. You gave Papa such top notch care, loving and supporting him and our family. You never gave up on our father. Also to Andie and Brandon, who cared for Papa with such respect and dignity. Allie and Suravadee, we just can't thank you enough for loving our father and giving him so many happy days, and treating him as your own.
A private graveside service will be held for family, and a celebration of life will follow in June at LeRoy and Annette's home in Marysville.
