March 19, 1930 - April 23, 2016
Mary was born in Drew, Mississippi, the only child of James Gibson and Anna Hooper. As a young child, she was placed in the care of her grandparents, Jim and Mollie Gibson. As Mary approached her school age years, she relocated to Arkansas where she lived with her Aunt and Uncle, Bernice and Ervin Brison. Here she continued on into young adulthood.
Shortly down the road she married and relocated to St. Louis, MO and then on to Seattle, Washington. Here in Washington, she laid a solid foundation for the generations to come beneath her. Her proudest and most meaningful accomplishments throughout her life were the growth and nurturing of her family. As well as becoming a licensed beautician, a missionary evangelist, a gospel recording artist, a licensed real estate agent and later in life a published author, “Mama’s Soul Food Recipes”. She loved to sing, publish her writings, share the gospel, cook, go fishing and just enjoy time with family and friends. A woman of many hats if I do say so!
Mary is very much loved and will be truly missed by all of her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her children: Raymond Hampton Jr, Cheryl Hansord-Taylor, Julian Willis, Gian “Sue” Finkley, Carl Williams, Leander Whiteside, Larry Whiteside, Elvis Whiteside, Kenneth Whiteside, Kevin Whiteside, and countless grand, great-grand, and even great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, equally loved and missed, are children: Johnny “Sugar Bear” Willis, Amber Gibson, Burdette Willis, Joseph Willis and Cynthia Whiteside.
