Rev. Kenneth Franklin Weston was born September 11, 1935 in Monterey Park, California, to Byron and Louise (Bleich) Weston. Ken passed away of natural causes on July 9, 2021 in Marysville, Washington.
Ken grew up in Montebello, California, and graduated in 1953 from Montebello High School. He was a talented baseball player and was sought after by school and traveling teams in LA County. Ken considered going into professional baseball, but felt called into the ministry. He graduated from Biola College of LA with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education in 1962. He then attended California Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Divinity.
Ken met Kathleen Goodman in November of 1955 at a Youth for Christ event. Ken and Kathy were engaged on February 14, 1956 and were married September 14th of the same year. Ken went into the ministry and Kathy managed the household and cared for their two girls, Debbie and Sheryl. He became pastor of his first church, Del Aire Baptist in Hawthorne, California, in 1965. The family moved from California to Everett, Washington in 1970 so Ken could take the position of Youth/Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Everett. In 1979 they moved to Burlingame, California, where Ken accepted the position of Sr. Pastor of Burlingame Baptist Church. They returned to Everett in 1984 and Ken was the Regional Executive Minister of North Puget Sound for the American Baptist Churches. Following his retirement in 1996, Ken made himself available to conduct funeral services and was well known for his ability to help families through this difficult time in their lives.
Ken enjoyed many activities including an annual San Juan sailing trip with friends from Washington, California and Idaho. He was an accomplished photographer and sold many pictures at local art shows. Ken got the home building bug, and built multiple homes which he occupied, rented or sold. Ken and Kathy enjoyed traveling, and attended Spring Training in Arizona for many years.
Ken leaves behind daughters Debbie Kelley (Larry), Sheryl Heavin (Rick), grandchildren Ryan, Kristen, Mollie (Warren) and Brendan, three great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and another great-granddaughter on the way.
Even with his declining memory, he still had his sense of humor and infectious smile. We will miss his guidance and steadfast support, his dessert stealing fun and his hugs. He joins Mom, who passed in February, and many friends and family who have entered Heaven before him.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Fieldstone Memory Care in Marysville for the love, compassion and care they gave Ken.
A private graveside service will be held at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett.
