Dorothy Anne Slade passed away peacefully on June 26, 2020 in Gold River, California at the age of 82. Dorothy was born in Healdsburg California on June 30, 1937. Dorothy is survived by Gary, her husband of 38 years.
Dorothy loved her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by and greatly missed by her three children, and 7 grandchildren. She was a beloved member of her church, Advent Lutheran Church where she served the Lord and her Community on the Church Council, Choir, Alter Guild, and Homeless outreach with the grace and love with which she lived her life.
Dorothy worked at the telephone company in San Francisco until she had her children. When they got older, she became a school bus driver and later became a school bus driver trainer. She became the Area Safety Director for ARA and later became a transportation scheduler for San Mateo County Office of Education before retiring in 1998. In 2003 Dorothy and Gary moved from their home in San Mateo to Gold River. They had 17 wonderful years in their beautiful Gold River home. Dorothy finally had the home of her dreams where she loved to entertain family and friends.
Dorothy and Gary first met in Foster City, California while fueling their buses when Dorothy asked if Gary had turned in his medical receipt for payment by management. It was then that a life long pattern of Dorothy keeping Gary on track was established.
They had countless wonderful adventures together which were a source of great joy in their long marriage. Over the years they traveled many times to Gary’s homeland, England as well as Dorothy’s ancestral home, Denmark. More recently a series of Viking River cruises and a tour of Italy enriched their lives. Dorothy especially liked mapping out routes and choosing bed and breakfast spots to stay in as we travelled from Lands End in England all the way up to Edinburgh in Scotland. All of this was done using paper maps up until recently when gps became available.
Even up to end Gary would say I love being your husband and Dorothy would reply I love being your wife. If ever the saying A life well lived was true it was with Dorothy. She has gone on her next journey until we meet again. My Sweet Wife, the love of my life, we miss you.
A Service will be held for Dorothy at Advent Lutheran Church when it is safe to congregate again.
