Ernest "Ernie" Hinds Jr.

May 15, 1942 – August 16, 2025

Ernie was born in Delaware to LaVerda Carrietta (Morrison) and Ernest Orchard Hinds Sr. When he was a child his family moved to Phoenix, AZ.

He attended college at The University of San Francisco where he met the love of his life Carolyn (Howard). Ernie and Carolyn married on June 8, 1965. Together they raised their two daughters in California and Oregon.

Ernie went from coaching soccer and softball to being politically active and traveling the world. He loved to make people laugh and his sense of humor will be missed by many. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and was always willing to make new friends. Later in life Ernie discovered a love of cooking and liked to say “I walked into the kitchen and never walked out.”

He was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Jill Linebarger, and son-in-law Randy Brush. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Kimberly Hinds-Brush, Tracie Hinds, son-in-law Jason Wright and many beloved family and friends.

His memorial service will be held at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 4pm. Join us for one of Ernie’s favorite foods at El Tapatio, 5637 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights CA, following the service.
