Gerald James Guglielmina, 83, of Sacramento, CA, died on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Sutter Hospital. He was born April 12, 1930 in Ferndale, CA, to Henry and Agnes Guglielmina. He married Carol Harris on August 11, 1956 and she survives.
Also surviving are his brothers Herb and Leonard Guglielmina and sister Esther Allen of Humboldt County, and his sister Mary Charbonneau of Huntington Beach. Gerald is survived by his eight children and their families; Gary Guglielmina, Carl Guglielmina and Ann Cook (Jeremy and Ryan), Norma Jean Bowman (James and Josh), John Guglielmina (Michael Joseph), Ann Marie Hill and Ken Hill (Bethany, Charlotte, Melody and Daniel), Larry and Lisa Guglielmina (Kayla and Briana), Lorraine Castberg and Franklin Castberg (John and Adam), and Ken and Tahni Guglielmina (Mikiah and Noel).
Gerald was a long time resident of Eureka, CA where he lived since leaving his childhood home on a dairy farm in Ferndale at the age of 26. He was a general contractor in Eureka for 30 years, where he built over 40 custom homes. In 1998 he and Carol moved to Sacramento to be closer to their family.
He loved to spend time with family and spent many hours tending his garden. Gerald also enjoyed reading, playing guitar and accordion, and yodeling alpine tunes. He spent many hours participating in activities at his local church. Gerald’s kind and gentle nature, hearty sense of humor and generosity of spirit warmed the hearts of all who came to know him. He will be missed by friends and family alike. While his family misses him, they are buoyed in spirit with the knowledge that he resides in heavenly places. We are separated from our husband, father, and grandfather, only for a season. A grand reunion awaits us all!
