Idella Jean Quattlebaum-Savely 87, died October 7, 2012 at Ohana Hospitality in Rancho Cordova California, where she resided after suffering a major stroke. At the time of her stroke, her physicians declared her to be terminal, but true to her nature, Jean not only lived another two years, but recovered to such and extent that she was able to go on frequent outing with her family. She especially enjoyed going to craft fairs and local department stores, never losing her love of shopping.
Jean was born March 12, 1925 in Cleburne Texas to Ben and Clara Gathings and forever retained her Texas twang with pride. Both of her husbands, Wendell W. Quattlebaum and Herman I. Savely, were also Texans and both served long and honorable careers in the US Air Force before retiring and ultimately preceding her in death. Jean also had a short, but memorable military sting in the US Marine Corp during WWII. She had many fond memories of performing in USO shows during that time.
Jean was also preceded in death by her brothers Joe and Orville, sisters Maxine and Llewellyn, and her first son Wendell Dean
Jean is survived by her son W. Warren Quattlebaum; four daughters Sharon Snell, Cynthia Quattlebaum, Jeanne Quattelbaum and Jolynn Gibbs; eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and three stepdaughters Linda, Cindy and Pam Savely.
While petite in stature, Jean had a big Texas-sized personality. She will be missed.
