Marie Carmela Culcasi, a lifetime resident of the Sacramento area, passed away Saturday, February 28 at the age of 72.
Marie was born in Sacramento, California on May 20, 1942, the second of two daughters to Ralpha Calora. She graduated from McClatchy High School and married Peter Culcasi two years later – with the couple having just celebrated their 53rd anniversary last month.
Her friends and family will always remember Marie’s wonderful smile and infectious laugh, and most local residents will remember her in uniform as the longtime manager of the See’s Candies quantity discount store in Rancho Cordova, where she worked for over 23 years. She loved her work but most of all she loved her customers and knew most of them by name.
Marie is survived by husband Peter, sons Brian and Kevin (Kristin) and four grandchildren: Evan, Timothy, Carmela and Nathan.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Stanford Cancer Center, Sierra Oncology, Mercy Hospitals, Mercy Hospice, Partners In Care and Dr. J. Draeger for their care, support and compassion. A special sincere gratitude to Marie Johnson and Edna Huls for their personal care, love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Mercy Hospitals or Mercy Hospice in Marie’s name.
A memorial service will be held at the chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks on Saturday, March 21 at 1pm.
