

Marilyn was born on December 23, 1930 to Amy and W.A. Gamble in Lisbon, ND. She grew up in Edgeley, ND with her parents and her sister Cheryl. She graduated from Edgeley High School in 1949 and went on to college at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. IN 1953, she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics Teaching. She married Forrest Smith, a decorated Army Military Policeman in 1952 before Forrest was deployed to Korea. After he returned they moved to Cody, WY where they welcomed their first child Lee Ann in 1957. Unfortunately, Lee Ann passed away about a year later. They moved to Sacramento, CA and welcomed their second child Daniel Forrest in 1960, and their third child Sharon Gail in 1962. Forrest worked for the Department of Reclamation as an electrical engineer and Marilyn taught home economics and was a writer. Forrest passed away in 1982 and was interred at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary in Fair Oaks, CA. Marilyn married Norman Murphy, a 19 year Air Force veteran, in 1995 and they lived in Citrus Heights for many years. Norman passed away in 2007 and is interred at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. Marilyn was an active member of the California Writers Club, the President of the Sacramento Association for the Retarded from 1990-1992, and loved to travel with her friends and family. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Gail, sister Cheryl Vukelich, nieces Jessica Smithson (Ethan Wetzell) and Amy Dalke (David), loving companion Allen Streeter, and many extended family and friends.
