Marvel Glen Upton

Marvel G. Upton passed away peacefully on April 21, 2011 in Orangevale, California. M.G. was born on November 10, 1914 in Beaver Creek, Texas to Lily Hughes Upton and Willie Everett Upton. He graduated from Hereford High School, and received a Bachelor’s degree from West Texas State College, as well as a Master’s degree in Theology from Southwestern Theological Seminary. He pastored various churches for 62 years in Texas and California. He was married to Viva May Thomas on April 29, 1939. Together they participated in mission trips to Latvia, Australia, Korea, and the Philippines. He was predeceased by his wife. He will be dearly missed by his children Monty Upton and wife, Rita, Marvella Thompson and husband Glen, Brenda Holcomb, Robert Upton, and Paul Upton and wife Chris, as well as eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26th from 5-7pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane Fair Oaks, CA. A Celebration service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, April 27th at 11am at First Baptist Church of Orangevale, 8998 Central Ave Orangevale, CA. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in M.G.’s honor to the American Bible Society for Bibles to be sent to China.
