Mildred Marguerite Patterson-Brumley-Stone, age 99, passed from this world on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Branson, MO.
She was born December 20, 1916, at the family farm in Iberia, to Gertrude C. Patterson and Wm. Carroll Brumley. Mart as she was known to family and friends, attended school in Tuscumbia and she was raised as a member of the Church of Christ. On July 2, 1932 in Versailles, MO she was united in marriage to Willie Earl (W.E.) Stone. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1998, just three weeks short of 67 years of marriage.
After their first three sons were born, W.E. moved his wife and family to the state of California, where a daughter and another son were born, and the family later settled in Elk Grove, CA. After raising all five children, Mart worked for the Campbell Soup Company, retiring as a food inspector after 26 years. She truly enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, gardening and canning, making quilts and traveling, especially for camping trips. She had a large heart, always finding room to love her children, grandchildren, all the nieces and nephews and any of the neighbor’s kids.
Mart is survived by one son, Bill & wife Jerri Rae Stone of Eldon. Other survivors include one sister, Hazel Evans of the state of Florida; one brother-in-law, Galen Hedgecock of the state of California and two daughters-in-law Connie McCullar of the state of California and Duffy Stone of Branson, MO; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many, many cousins.
Mart will be sadly missed by her roommate and special friend, Fayetta Ellis and the many friends on the staff of the Golden Living Center in Branson who nicknamed her “Stoney.” They all treated her so well and she loved them all as family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Dean Wise and granddaughter Jennifer Grady, three sons, James David Stone, Gerald Lee Stone, Sr., and Carl Fredrick Stone. Five sisters, Betty Deaver, Ruby Smith, Helen Kosky, Faye Schulte and Alice Hedgecock; two brothers, infant Billy Brumley and Churchill Brumley. A daughter-in-law, Judy Stone; one son-in-law, John Wise Sr.; a granddaughter, Debra Stone; one grandson, John Wise Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Wise. Also preceding her in death were five brothers-in-law, George Kosky; Bill Evans, Tom Schulte; Bob Deaver and Phil Smith.
A Funeral Service and Interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Mortuary and Cemetery in Fair Oaks, CA on Friday 3/11/2015 at 10:00 a.m., where she will be laid to rest with her husband W.E.
Memorials in her name are suggested to any local animal shelter or food pantry.
