Millie Olson was born on June 5, 1936 to Joe and Myrtle Excell in Seattle, Washington. After a long battle with cancer, she went to be with her Lord and Savior, and all her loved ones that have gone before on September 17, 2012. More than anything else, Millie loved and enjoyed spending time with her family. As in the old Swedish tradition, Millie become known as Mor-Mor, Swedish for mother's mother, by her family and loved ones. Millie also enjoyed traveling, knitting, sewing, playing the piano, and Bible study. Millie graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1954.
Don and Millie met in 1949 when Millie was only thirteen. They met at Pike Street Covenant Church in Seattle, Washington, when the Olson family sat behind the Excell family during a songfest. There was an instant attraction between Don and Millie and they were married three and a half years later. They spent their honeymoon in Vancouver, Canada. They moved into their first brand new apartment in the Seattle Center near the Opera House. They stayed there until they bought their first home at the Meadowbrook Golf Course, also in Seattle. A business opportunity arose, they packed up their trailer and new born son, Kim, and moved to Southern California. They bought a home in La Mirada, and their second child, Cindy Lu, was born. They moved back to Seattle when they got the opportunity to become part owners for a souvenir booth at the World's Fair. Millie worked two shifts as an engraver and they both had lots of fun. Shortly after the World's Fair ended, they moved back to Southern California. They lived there until another business opportunity moved them back to Seattle, where they lived on Nob Hill. Kim attended John Hay Elementary School, the same school Millie had attended as a child. Then the family settled in Los Gatos, where the children did well in school, graduated, and started families of their own. From there, Don and Millie moved to Lake Wildwood to build a home on the lake. The family, including the grandchildren who were arriving, enjoyed spending time together on the lake. Don and Millie moved back to the Bay area, bought a boat, and enjoyed adventures traveling up and down the coast, as well as overseas. Twelve years ago, they moved to the Sacramento area to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. They settled in, bought a motorcoach, traveled across country, joined a church, became involved in a small group Bible study, and made many friends. It may be hard to believe, but this is the story of a 58 year long, loving and romantic marriage between Don and Millie, which has blessed them with two children, Kim and Cindy, six grandchildren, Bentley, Jacoby, Brittney, Nickie, Brooke, and Natalie, and four great-granchildren, Anika, Tre, Lucy, and Harper.
