Nannella Hunter Hogan, was lovingly called home by God at the age of 76 on November 4, 2018 in North Highland, California. Nannella was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 3, 1942 to Artie Crosby and James Ellington. Most knew Nannella as “Nan”. Family and childhood friends knew her as “Net”. Artie remarried to Henry “Pops” Crosby at an early age in Nannella’s life. Pops was Nannella’s life-long loving father. She was the youngest of five sisters and two brothers.
Nannella accepted Jesus Christ at an early age in Birmingham. She continued her faith journey as a faithful and active member of Valley Redemptive Church in Sacramento until the time of her passing. She enjoyed reading the Bible and loved to sing with the Women in White.
Nannella, was an intelligent and outgoing young lady growing up in Birmingham where she graduated from Western Olin High School and later attended Tuskegee Institute where she met Ronald “Ron” Fleming. Nannella and Ron were married in 1963 and moved to Los Angeles, California. They relocated briefly to Alexandria, Virginia before moving to San Diego, where they gave birth to their children, Rhonda Yvette Fleming and Randall Douglas Fleming. The family later resided in Palo Alto, California until Nannella and Ronald divorced. Nannella was remarried to Elliott Lee Hogan in February 1994. They relocated from the Bay Area to Sacramento, where they surrounded themselves with friends and a faithful church community. They lived a joyful, laugh and travel-filled life until the time of Elliott’s passing in 2001.
A life well lived! Nannella was a caring and devoted daughter, sister and mother who never met a stranger. She befriended people from all walks of life with her warm smile and gigantic jolly laugh. Her children were her greatest pride and joy. Her devotion to her children allowed her to be engaged in Rhonda’s passion for clothes and fashion. Nan was also an avid fan of sports but most loved cheering Randall on at all of his baseball and football games. She was his biggest fan. Her proudest moments were when her children graduated from college. Nannella was employed for 25 years as a technical supervisor for Fairchild/Cisco Systems in San Jose. As a volunteer, she raised awareness towards causes such as domestic violence and cancer prevention.
Nannella was a sharp dresser and “Fashionista” throughout her life, a trait she shared with her daughter Rhonda. Nannella loved to travel. She and Elliott travelled extensively. Her most memorable trips were a road trip from Sacramento to Los Angeles and to the Roper Family Reunion in Alabama with her sister Carolyn. Nannella loved listening and dancing to Oldies But Goodies, Doo Wop, Motown and the Blues. She was an avid reader of African American novels.
Nannella is survived by her children, Rhonda Yvette Landrum, her husband (Will Landrum), in Centerville, Virginia and her son Randall Douglas Fleming, his girlfriend (Shannon Snapp) in San Francisco and her beloved dog Chloe. She is survived by her mother Artie “Moms” Crosby, sisters, Marion Walker and Audrey Shareef, brothers Henry Charles Crosby and his wife (Stephanie Crosby) and Timothy Ellington, three nieces, Gina Raiford and her husband (Andre Raiford, Sr.), Arianna Crosby and Marcia Baker, four nephews, Jerry Haley, Frederick Walker and Brian Crosby and his wife (Meredith Crosby), Ken Baker and great-niece Jailyn Baker, great-nephews Andre Raiford, Jr., Alexander Raiford, Tyler Walker, Noah Crosby, Leo Crosby and Deonte Bates.
