

Dick was born on November 3, 1936 in Fillmore, Ca. to Glen and Ruth Cox.
After moving to Ventura in 1941, Dick received his education and developed his lifelong love of sports, particularly Track & Field and Baseball, at Ventura High School. Following graduation in 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he spent 9 years, continued playing baseball and found a new sport (golf) which became his preferred sport.
In 1957 he met and married Janet Owen from San Francisco and they had 2 sons, Mike and Jeff. Dick and Jan were both involved with the boys during their growing up years in Little League, Dick with coaching and Jan in the Snack Bar. Their lives were always involved with sports and their boys.
Dick's career followed several paths taking him from Ca. to Houston, Tx. to Seattle, Wa. ending in Sacramento, Ca. In 1994, with his son Mike, who is now President and CEO, he started his own business, River City Paper Co. in Sacramento. In 2014, the business was recognized by the City of Sacramento as one of the most successful small family owned and operated businesses.
In 1997, Dick and Jan moved to Rancho Murieta Golf & Country Club where he continued with his passion for golf, playing several days a week with his group, "the Motely Crew". He also became involved with the community and development issues, served on the RMA Board of Directors from 2003 and was elected President in 2008.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jan Cox and his parents Glen and Ruth Cox. He is survived by 2 sons, Michael "Mike" Cox (Marcy), El Dorado Hills, Ca. and Jeffrey "Jeff" Cox (Debbie), Sacramento, Ca., sisters, Joyce Willhite (Dewey) and Bonnie McPherson, Ventura, Ca., brother, Robert "Bob" Cox, Folsom, Ca., 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his close friend and traveling companion for the last 8 years, Darlene Haley, Sacramento, Ca.
Memorial service will be held February 22, 2015 at Rancho Murieta Clubhouse.
