Sally Lou Cohenour

Sally died unexpectedly on November 5, 2017. She was born February 18, 1944 in Persia, Iowa to Bernard and Louise Hansen. The family moved to Redondo Beach, Ca., where Sally graduated from Aviation High School. She attended UC Berkeley and received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nutritional Sciences. It was there she met her future husband, and the love of her life, John, with whom she celebrated their 50th anniversary in July, 2017. As a Registered Dietician in the State of California, Sally was the Legislative Liaison for the State and the California Dietetic Association (CDA).

She was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. Sally enjoyed attending seminars focusing on nutrition, psychology and finance. She was a member of CDA, Lawyers’ Wives of Sacramento, and Assistance League of Sacramento where she was an active volunteer and current Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

Sally and John enjoyed traveling across the country and around the world, entertaining friends at their home in Sacramento and their vacation homes in Lake Almanor and Hawaii. She was a passionate supporter of the Cal Bears and with a group of close friends had football season tickets for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Stephanie Ann, and by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband John, daughter and son-in-law Victoria & Doug Timpe, brother Daryl Hansen and his wife Kathy, and many other loving family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held November 16, 2017 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Commons Clubhouse at Campus Commons, 650 Commons Drive, Sacramento, CA 95825.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Scholarship Fund of the Assistance League of Sacramento, PO Box 60874, Sacramento, CA 95860.
