Born in Sacramento Ca on September 3 1943 but then blessed to be raised in the idyllic town of Downieville Ca. Where she grew up enjoying school, sports, camping, intertubing down the river and best of all dancing to American Bandstand with her dear girlfriends Ila and Carolyn. Shirley always had a flair for fashion and hair so when she turned 18, with the blessing of her mother Gloria; she headed to Sacramento to go to Beauty School. Unknown to her mother that not only would Shirley return with her cosmetologist license but also her beautiful long blond hair sheared off in the newest fashion! After spending her summer visit in Downieville with family and dear friends, Shirley headed back to Sacramento and landed her first job at the prestigious Lanai Beauty Salon in downtown Sacramento. She spent her days working hard and on the weekends DANCING!! That is where she met the love of her life, Gerald Steudel, a tall dark and handsome Air Force man and boy could he dance. They where married on January 9 1965 in Downieville Ca. It was a beautiful day, sunny and snow on the ground. Gerald’s family flew out from Wisconsin and Shirley’s family and friends attended.
After a few years of enjoying bowling, water skiing and dancing they had there first daughter, Marcy Lynn, and two years later their son Christopher William.
Shirley then devoted herself to raising her children, taking care of her home and husband.
During this time she designed beautiful homes for her family to enjoy and found a way to keep dancing, she joined a ladies gym where she could tear up the dance floor doing aerobics. Here is where she met one of very best friends Nancy Snider.
As her children grew up and left the house Shirley went back to work part time in a beauty salon so she could be back in the beauty business and with all of the wonderful ladies that work in that profession. During this time Shirley and Jerry where blessed with 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Shyla, Cody, Cheyenne, Kyle and Gabby.
During her retirement years she spent her time being a devoted grandmother.
The family would like to thank Shirley’s dear friends for always visiting and being such a comfort till the end.
