

Octavio Garcia, local businessman and registered pharmacist, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Alfredo Gonzalez VA home at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfredo Tomas Garcia and Julia Vela Garcia and his sister Bertha Garcia Diou. He is survived by his spouse of 56 years Jane Perez Garcia. He was born January 11, 1927 in Kingsville, Texas. Following graduation from Alice High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in Occupied Japan and the Philippine Islands. After two years of service he was Honorably Discharged. He served in the Civil Service in Louisiana at which time he fulfilled a lifelong ambition when he earned his pilot's license. Upon completion of his service he attended the University of Texas at Austin and completed undergraduate studies in Pharmacy at the University of Houston in 1955. Octavio was a registered Pharmacist, active in his community throughout his lifetime in organizations such as the Falfurrias Chamber of Commerce where he served as President from 1970-1972 and in the VFW as a lifetime member. Tavo also served in the church as a Eucharistic Minister and as an usher. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Recently, he received an honorary Citation of Achievement from the State of Texas Pharmacy Board commemorating fifty years of service and in recognition of his dedication to the practice of pharmacy. He is also survived by his three sons, Marc David (Linda) Garcia and Karl Victor (Susan) Garcia both of McAllen, TX and Ross Omar (Mary Nelda) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Alfredo T. Garcia Jr. of Alice, Texas and Luis Agustin Garcia of San Antonio, TX and seven grandchildren, Liana Yvette Garcia, Lauren Elyse Garcia, Cedar Riley Garcia, Erin Noelle Garcia, Ian David Kretz, Ross Gabriel Garcia and Nina Rebecca Garcia.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias.
Interment will follow at the Loma Blanca Cemetery in Falfurrias.
