Rene Canales, Sr., 77, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 in Laredo, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Rene was born May 28, 1936 to Loreto and Dolores Saenz Canales in the town of El Sauz, Texas. He worked with the Texas Highway Department before his retirement. Rene was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Estela G. Canales of Hebbronville; three sons, Rene Canales, Jr. of Austin, Texas, Arnoldo Canales of New York and Cesar Canales of Laredo; a daughter, Debbie (Jose Luis) Martinez Rodriguez of Laredo; brother Loreto Canales, Jr. of California and two sisters, Elva Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas and Olga Ramos of Hebbronville, Texas. Rene is also survived by his two grandsons, C.J. Martinez and Frank Martinez and a great grandson, Michael Martinez.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
