Helen Transue, 89, a longtime resident of Falls Church, VA, died August 9 at a hospice care facility in Arlington, VA. Her loving husband and children were at her side as she passed away. Mrs. Transue had been fighting cancer for seven years. Born Helen Agatha Glynn on July 21, 1930 to parents Reva and Charles William (Bill) Glynn, she spent her early years living and working on the family farm in Pawnee County, Nebraska, and caring for her disabled sister. She had two brothers, Jay and Leo, and a sister, Peggy (all deceased). Helen Glynn married John R. Transue on July 23, 1952 at St. Bridget, a rural Catholic church near Axtell, Kansas. Helen and John Transue had four children -- Michael, Patrick, Janet and Thomas. Michael passed away in 1992. Mrs. Transue was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker. The family lived in Kansas, then Ohio, California and Northern Virginia (since 1965). Mrs. Transue received her elementary education in a one-room school house in the country. After high school, she became the teacher of a one-room rural schoolhouse. Mrs. Transue was an avid gardener and served the Falls Church Garden Club as president and in several other positions. Prior to her illness she could be found in her beautiful garden virtually everyday. Mrs. Transue was a talented and creative cook. She enjoyed annual family trips to the Delaware shore, watching the local sports teams on TV, and remained involved in her children’s lives until she passed away. Mrs. Transue is survived by her husband, Dr. John Transue, and children Patrick Transue, Janet Kershaw and Thomas Transue. She is survived by the spouses of her children, Carrie Neuberger, Paul Kershaw and Linda Transue. Dr. and Mrs. Transue were blessed with nine grandchildren: Sadie, Grace, Benjamin (deceased), Wesley, Kyle, Hailey, Madison, Alexandra, and Danielle, and one great-grandson, Ezekiel.
