Harold Kohn, aged 83, passed away peacefully in his Oak Park, Illinois home on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. Born on January 20th, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois to Ruben and Dorothy Kohn, Harold led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and service.
For 43 years, Harold was the cherished husband and partner of Charlaine Kohn. He leaves behind a legacy of love as the father of Kathleen Kohn, Theresa Stewart, Samuel Kohn, and Jeffrey Kohn. Harold also played an important role in the lives of his stepsons Edward Robinson, Barry Sargent, and Brian Sargent. His warmth extended to his dear nieces and nephews; Edith Goslawski, Max Kohn, Anna Garland, and David Kohn.
Harold's journey began with a dream that defied tradition. Despite his grandfather Max Kohn's expectations for him to become a Cantor, Harold followed his own path. He pursued a career in law enforcement, a choice that resonated deeply with him.
In 1960, Harold joined the Chicago Police Department as a cadet. His commitment and dedication led him to become a Police Officer in 1962. Over the next four decades, he served with distinction in various law enforcement agencies including the City of Chicago, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, East Chicago Heights Police Department, and Robbins Illinois Police Department.
Beyond his public service, Harold owned and managed two private security agencies: In the 1960s, he founded the Kohn Detective Agency. Later, in the eighties, he established the Centennial Security Agency. Harold's expertise extended to security alarm services, where he served as a licensed contractor with TRICOR Security Group.
Harold's impact reached far beyond his professional roles. He was a loving Godfather and a mentor to countless relatives, colleagues, and friends. Affectionately known as Dad, Pops, Captain, and even Dirty Harry, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
Harold Kohn will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and associates. His legacy of service, love, and unwavering commitment will continue to inspire generations to come.
May his memory be a blessing
