Inez Altman Crofts, age 93, longtime resident of Riverside, passed away December 12, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Philip Crofts; loving mother of Phil (Suzanne) Crofts; proud grandmother of Scott (Prachee) and Alex Crofts; lovingly cared for by Patty Kirin. Inez was a composer-contralto, who held a master's degree in music from the Chicago Conservatory where she taught voice. She toured with the New York City Opera Company in the role of Bertha in the Barber of Seville. In the early 50’s Inez had her own television show "Twilight Time" in New haven, Connecticut. She served as a faculty member of the music department of Judson College in Elgin, Illinois, as well as being the past president of Chicago Artist Association. Inez was a voice instructor to countless professional and armature singers from the Chicago area. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday January 15, 2011 at the Riverside United Methodist Church, 82 Woodside Rd., Riverside. Burial took place privately in the family plot at Memorial Burial Cemetery, Wheelersburg, Ohio. For nearly fifty years, Inez was a devoted active member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. Memorials may be made towards music scholarships in her name to the Oak Park Alumnae Chapter of SAI, C/O Marty McIntyre, P O Box 1477, Oak Park, Illinois 60304. Inez was a great lover of flowers.
