On August 147, 2022, John was preceded in death by his wife of over 30 years, Eleanor Hall.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings: George, Lorenzo, Anthony, James Larry, and Patricia.
John leaves a family legacy that includes his children: Gwen, Andre (Cheryl), John, Jeannette, Nikki, and Jeremy; Siblings: Gladys Hall-Netty (Alex), Rebecca Austin (Curtis), Shirley Hall (Johnnie), Sheila Williams (Willie) and Herman Hall (the late Hilda); Along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a family of friends.
John was a hard-working man, a great friend and a devoted Father that worked tirelessly to provide for his family. While he didn't give them everything they wanted, he did give them what they needed. His life was an exercise in humility. John understood that you had to give to receive. John had a knack for business and figured out how to make a profit at an early age. It wasn't long before his pennies added up to dollars. In his teens, he successfully owned and operated a grocery store. John and Eleanor owned a resale shop that blossomed from a neighborhood pop-up flea market he'd started. He had many different jobs in his lifetime. From companies like Zenith, Corey Steel Company, and TWA his reputation for being dependable and getting the job done preceded him.
John's life journey began in Alabama. From there, he went to Chicago where he established deep roots, and then to St. Louis.
On December 31st, God called Dad home. From Chicago he can see St. Louis in his rear view. From here, it's off to Sweet Home Alabama to rest in peace.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, 3121 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60612, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
