June P. Dougherty (nee Wiggins/Schmidt) of Waukegan, Illinois was born August 31, 1929 in Maywood, Illinois. June passed away on January 20, 2023 in Wheeling, Illinois. Raised in Glen Ellyn, Illinois for her first 21 years. Mother of Phyllis L. McNeely (James "Mike"), Michael R. Schmidt, Sr. and the late Russell R. Schmidt, Sr. (Mary), 2018. Stepmother of Michael P. Dougherty, Judith A. Horton (Jerry), Patricia Hardman and the late David Dougherty, 1988. Sister of Geraldine Rabe. Grandmother of Jason Trebil (Rachel), Russell R. Schmidt, Jr. (Valeri), Eric A. Schmidt (Stefania), David M. McNeely (Laura), John Schmidt, Michael R. Schmidt, Jr., Nicholas Schmidt (Ryan), Russell Wingate, Rebekah Smith (Jacob), Stephanie Schmidt, Amy Dougherty, Joshua D. McNeely (Sarah), Melissa Dougherty, Samuel Schmidt (Megan), Christopher Hardman and Michael P. Dougherty, Jr. and great grandmother of many. Preceded in death by her husband H. Doc Dougherty in December 1998, her father Louis C. Wiggins in April 1971 and mother Isabelle Wiggins, nee Sanderson in November 1964, four brothers Louis Jr, Chester, Gordon, and Richard, one sister, Isabelle, and one stepson, David Dougherty in January 1988 and one son Russell R. Schmidt, Sr. in January 2018. June retired from the Abbott Payroll Department in 1989. She was a V.F.W. auxiliary member for 50 plus years. She graduated from Lake Forest School of Management in 1985. In the early years she was a PTA President in the Addison School District. She was a member of the Waukegan Township Park Place, the Bethel Lutheran Church of Gurnee, and Zion - Benton Moose #667. June was an avid Chicago Bears fan. She loved music and danced a few times a week well into her 80s. A visitation for June will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, Illinois 60130, with a chapel service at 6:00 PM.
