Louise grew up in Melrose Park with her parents, brother and sister attending Melrose Park Grade School and then Proviso East High School. After graduation, she began working at Chicago Rivet in Bellwood where she helped replenish the US Military with machined parts coming out of WWII and then the Korean War.
Louise and Eugene (Wags) first met in 1950; it was a spark that Eugene would remember for quite a while as he needed to go into the Korean War. After returning from the Korean front in 1953, Eugene did not waste much time getting back in touch with Louise as she met him at Midway Airport with other close family members. Her naturally red hair, caring personality and great smile were quite an attraction. Many dates and dancing into the night led to their marriage on March 6, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park. They were devoted to each other for 70 years having two sons; Richard in 1957 and Scott in 1960.
Louise and Eugene bought their first house on 17th Avenue in Melrose Park in 1956 and raised their family there. After taking a break from American Rivet to raise a family, Louise went to work at Dominick’s Finer Foods in 1966 to support their Buyers and helped grow the Grocery Retail chain locally. She stayed with Dominick’s until 1996 in a variety of different Buyer support roles making a lot of lifetime relationships. Louise was very active both with outside of the housework as well as managing the household and volunteering at Church & Cub Scouts. She loved shopping in general, reading magazines & newspapers, the holidays and all of the house decorating that goes with it.
Louise is lovingly remembered by her husband, Eugene; her two sons, Richard (Cynthia) and Scott, her sister, Arlene; sister in-law, Carol; two grandsons, Garrett (Michelle) and Ryan (Kristen); five great granddaughters (with a soon to be grandson). She will be greatly missed by all.
The family will be having a Memorial Service at St Paul Lutheran Church, 1025 Lake St, Melrose Park, on April 27th with visitation at Noon and a Memorial Service at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in her name to the American Heart Association. Arrangements entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home, Forest Park.
