Curlis Meaux, 94, of Fort Wayne passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home in Georgetowne Place. Curlis was born in Crowley, Louisiana, moving to Fort Wayne in 1950, where he met his beloved wife of 60 years, MarySue, who passed away in 2015.
He was a gentleman with an engaging smile and a kind word for everyone he met. A WWII veteran, Curlis went on to have a rich career in business administration including more than 20 years in Phelps Dodge leadership. He generously volunteered with a number of organizations including Association of Systems Management, The Red Cross and DuPont Hospital.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Nanette Meaux, Duane (Deb) Meaux and Leslie (Sean) Druley; grandchildren, Bryan (Monica) Meaux, Kevin (Ashley) Meaux, Arden Druley and Liam Druley. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Yolla Credeur, Vina Taylor and brothers, LJ Meaux, Joseph John "Johnny" Meaux and George Lee Meaux.
Ever proud of his Cajun roots, he will be missed and remembered for his love of Fort Wayne’s Coney Island hot dogs, sharing stories about growing up in the bayou, his conversation-starting socks, salt in his beer and always stopping to hold a door or offer help to anyone he came across.
In his later years, Curlis was so grateful for all his friends, family and support. As he liked to say: ”these people treat me like I’m something special and I’m not going to tell them otherwise.”
Memorial Service is noon, Saturday March 2, 2024 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10:30.
