Derek "Dirk" Lee Spencer

He is survived by his parents Linda (Saalfrank) & Vaughn "Spence" Spencer, his sister Tara (Chad) Froelich, and nieces Addilyn "Addi" & Julianna "Jules." Derek was known as "Uncle D" to his nieces and they shared a special connection, including secret handshakes.

Derek, known as Dirk to many, had a big circle of family, friends, and friends who were family including his best friend since childhood, William "Will" Ladig and Will's daughter Zoey. Derek played several sports during childhood and school years but most notably played soccer, basketball, and football. He was a proud athlete of New Haven High School class of 2008.

He enjoyed time spent with family & friends and lovingly supported them, from attending dance recitals to being in wedding parties. He liked to play video games, especially with others, and watching sports. He enjoyed getting tattoos, which all had significant meaning to him and told the story of his life.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 with calling one hour prior at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46835.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, also at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN.
