She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Elaine Smith (Kinney), 78—a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Ft. Wayne, IN, daughter of the late Arthur and Marceil Kinney. She attended Northside High School and worked for the Social Security Administration for over 32 years until her retirement.
Diane was known for her soft yet mighty heart, her unwavering love for family and friends, resilience, strength, infinite wisdom, and selfless generosity. She was always there to give a warm hug or a listening ear. She was the heart and soul of our family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, calligraphy, doing pottery, shopping, bowling, fine dining, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her garden was her sanctuary, filled with vibrant colors and fragrant blooms—a reflection of her own inner beauty.
She leaves behind her beloved daughters, DeChelle (Donnie) Rice and Stephanie (Jason) Yearbury; daughter-in-law, Michelle Trim; her cherished grandchildren, Logan Trim, Mackenzie (Jake) Barker, Madeline Rice, Malia Rice, Kaiden Yearbury, Kya Yearbury, Dylan Trim, and Ryker Yearbury; great-grandchild, Simon Barker; and her loved sisters, Linda (Neil) Hartmann and Barbara (John) Lothamer.
She was sadly preceded in death by two of her children, Marcy Ward and Douglas Trim.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 to 3 on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at The Botanical Gardens, Ft. Wayne, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Riley Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society in Diane's name.
A truly one of a kind mom, sister, nana and friend. Your love will guide us always. We will miss your laughter, radiant smile, infinite wisdom, and your unwavering presence in our lives.
Rest in peace and thank you for YOU.
