DONALD JACOB BRUICK, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Lutheran Life Villages-Pine Valley. Born March 25, 1922 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Lewelyn and Hilda (Linnemier) Bruick. A graduate of North Side High School, Donald ran track and cross-country. He was undefeated in cross-country and came in second place in state competition for the half-mile during his senior year in 1940. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years where he also played basketball and baseball. He pursued his education at Western Michigan, Valparaiso, and Ball State Universities earning a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. Donald was a teacher, assistant track and football coach, and head basketball coach at North Side High School having taken the basketball team to state finals in 1955. He taught at Northwood Middle School and later taught business law and typing at Snider High School where he was the head golf coach for 20 years, having taken six teams to state finals. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at North Side High School in August of 2017 for his accomplishments. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for over 50 years and was a prior member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was the co-founder of the Easter Seals ARC, member of the Fort Wayne Retired Teachers Association, American Legion, and VFW. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy (Jones) Bruick of Fort Wayne; children, Connie Bruick of Fort Wayne, Cheryl (Dr. Robert) Callon of Westfield, and Kenneth (Carol) Bruick of Fort Wayne; granddaughters, Michelle (Brian) Young, Megan (Russell) Lilly, Molly (Patrick) Reilly, Melissa Callon, and Mariah Callon; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Herbert (Anne) Bruick of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bruick. Funeral Service is 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
